Chinese sofas fight back

When Chinese exports are discussed the issue of quality is never far behind.

Thousands injured by 'toxic gas from Chinese sofas' [Times]

Thousands of people who suffered severe allergic reactions after sitting on their sofas were victims of a toxic gas emitted by an anti-mould agent, a study has concluded.

Hospitals across northern Europe have treated thousands of patients with symptoms which appeared to range from skin cancer and chemical burns to severe eczema.

The British cases have been linked to an estimated 100,000 sofas sold by Argos, World of Leather and Walmsley Furnishing manufactured in China by a company called Linkwise.

  1. Not surprised in the slightest by this. In our hurry to import cheaper goods of all kinds we seem to have lowered our expectations of quality. A lesson learnt i hope

  2. The UK is not alone in receiving toxic exports from China. It's undoubtedly in all exported leather goods to the USA as well. From personal experience a close relative had a severe reaction to a fake fur(?)leather jacket from China worn less than a couple of hours. It took over a month to recover from a body rash that would disappear and reappear with a vengenance. Over the counter and prescription antihistamines moderated the symptoms. The second time, a friend's Bebe coat made in china "fake" fur worn less than 2 hours caused a severe reaction and again the body rash/hives for over a month. The antihistamines were less effective. The relative is now deathly allergic and carries an eppi-pen. BTW, anything that comes into contact with these poisonous products are then contaminated as well.

Unfortunately, the USA's FDA has been defanged and hand-tied by this administration to leave our Chinese lenders alone and does nothing. Bush, Paulson, and Bernanke go on bended knee to the Chinese rulers to buy our debt and turn a blind eye to the posionous chinese exports distributed in the USA to unsuspecting consumers.

Anyone know of a class-action lawsuit in the USA?

  3. If you are thinking of buying a sofa bed, then you are thinking in the right direction. China sofa beds are getting quite popular once again. Their sale figures have risen in the last few years. These sofas are very comfortable and they have a storage space for a few books and magazines.

    Good to now.....
